Floor Cushions as Decoration and Furniture

If you are a little short of seating, and expecting a family get together, we have an idea for something informal and fun. Floor cushions will add a shot of pizzazz to any home’s décor. And not only that, they actually can be put to use, unlike many other decorative items. What else can you use as a color accent, and as seating for an impromptu fondue party?

You can select your floor cushion as a single item, or buy a matched or complementary set. They come in a huge variety of shapes, sizes, materials, stuffing, thickness – you name it. You can even get them with hypo-allergenic stuffing if you or someone in your family has allergies. They are available in clean, modern designs or with antique lace. And you can get most any fabric you choose, from denim, corduroy, suede and leather all the way to plastic and synthetic materials for outdoor use.

Depending on their design and your needs they can be used to solve nay number of issues – extra floor cushion seating for a party, as a small (or large!) coffee table, as a foot rest and even as a “floor cushion pillow”.

A new format that is becoming increasingly popular is the large floor cushion. Also known as giant floor cushions, they bring a whole new level of functionality to this decorative category. If you have a small child, you will find that a giant floor cushion makes a great nap spot.

Kids floor cushions

Having a slumber party for the little girl in your house? What could be easier than tossing out a half dozen of these onto the living room floor? Let them watch cartoons till they drop, then just leave them there, knowing that they have a comfortable bed and pillow in one!

Your adult guests can slide several together and tuck the ends of a sheet around them for an impromptu guest bed.

Some people like to have custom floor cushions made to match the décor in their home, or even in a certain room. I think that custom work like this can be very expensive and that you would do better to simply find a friend that can sew – or maybe you can sew – and make floor cushion covers or slipcovers to match or complement whatever other items you like. A nice thing about going this direction is that you can have an entire set of slipcovers for all of your floor cushions and change them for the holidays, summer, or whenever you like.

Outdoor floor cushions

If you like to entertain out of doors on the patio, you may want to look into outdoor floor cushions, also known as patio floor cushions. Patio cushions are made of durable, weatherproof materials that resist mildew, and either shed water, or dry out quickly. You can simply place a stack of these in your garage and toss them around the patio when you need a lot of extra floor chairs for a get together.
