Protein Shaker Bottles - A Quick Review
74Does it really matter what shaker bottle I use?
Well, maybe not. But if you are no fan of chunks of protein powder hitting the back of your throat and coming apart so that you feel like you just swallowed half an acre of the Sahara, maybe you should at least give this article a quick run through.
The best shaker bottles have a lot on common:
- They are easy to clean
- They mix ingredients well, without excessive work or time.
- They have measurements on the side of the shaker bottle
- The top will not bonk you in the nose when you are trying to get a drink
- They never leak
Don't they all do that?
Sadly, no. Quite a few of the ones out there just now feature shoddy construction, and old fashioned mixing technology. Today I will be writing about my personal favorites - the ones that really work!
First up is the always dependable Tupperware Quick Shake.
I have always liked this shaker bottle Mine is about 5 years old, and still looks new. High quality plastic indeed. Check this feature list:
- Dishwasher safe
- No O-ring to get lost or damaged
- Lid type: snap-on. It seals with a "click" and never leaks.
- The usual “star” mixing insert. This is an old design, but works well enough.
- material of construction is a rubbery plastic - apparently indestructible
- Come in red and blue
- holds 10 ounces of fluid
- The drinking lid is a flip-up. It is too small of an opening, and fits loosely, so it flops back and hits you in the nose.
- Specs: 4 1/8″ Diameter x 8″ high 2-cup capacity (500 mL)
- Standard and Metric markings on one side of the bottle
Rating: 7 out of 10
A solid quality product, if a bit pricey.
Next up:
The Zyliss Quick Blend Shaker Bottle
Zyliss is a big name brand, and they make a lot of different gadgets for the kitchen. of course, we're only concerned with their this shaker bottle.
We see the same old star shaped mixing ring, which they call an “emulcifier ring”.
The bottle works well, mixing a lot of different liquids and solids with no real issues.
- material or construction - seems to be the same rubbery plastic they are all made of
- standard measurement marking on one side - no metric measurements
- screw-on top
- opening in cap for drinking
- dishwasher safe
- 10 oz capacity
Of course, it is just a shaker bottle, so you can't really expect to make a smoothie, right? Check this out:
The Blender Bottle
This one is my personal favorite. The price is low, low, low and it seems ot have been made for those of us who are in a rush, and just want a shaker bottle that freaking works, already!
It has all features you want, and one more - it works perfectly. I can't find anything this won't mix to a nice creamy consistancy.

I totally LOVE my protein drink shaker...it has a separate top that closes off from the rest so you can place your powder in the top and when you are ready you just twist it and the powder drops into the milk and shake away...mine also has freeze gel in it so you can freeze it before hand and have a really cold drink!
