63Window valences are essential part of your window treatment. They can best be described simply as short curtains. Normally they'll hang from the front of the double track rail or ring mounted on the top board so that they hang down over the front of your curtains. Don't confuse him with a pelmet which is formal and stiff looking. A valence is used for a more casual look.
If you're making your own valences for windows, do not be skimpy with the fabric. Remember that a window valence is supposed to be full and fluffy. Also be certain to use correct proportions. Normally a valence is about 1/8 the length of the curtain.
Normally you'll make your valence from the same fabric as your curtains. You can use a contrasting fabric, but if you do make certain that that same color contrast also appears elsewhere in your decorating scheme.

If you like, besides other valence window treatments can be longer than the center. You can also add trim fabric to the bottom of your valence. This could maybe be a solid color or a pattern. Just make sure that it does not clash with either the color or the pattern of your window of valence or curtains.

If you're using a mock curtain -- this is curtain that is for display only a cannot be opened or closed -- there's no reason not to make the valence part of the same piece. It's not as if you're going to have to hang it separately to leave room for curtain movement.
Neither due valences need tolined. Remember, they're hanging in front of the curtains. So they're already protected from fading by sunshine. Having said that, however if you do line your valence it will have more body and hang better.

Use a valence for cover
You can also use your valence as a cover. Give an older home you may have old-fashioned pelman said above your Windows.
