Exercise to lose weight the right way

I've got some really bad news for you. You are surfing the Internet expecting to read yet another article written by someone who does not really know what he's talking about. Maybe you think you are going to just discount what's in this article, and go on thinking that you don't have to do exercises to lose weight quickly. But you do have to do this to learn how to reduce stomach fat.

If you are not already exercising to lose weight, it's because one of two things. Either you don't have the willpower to do it, in which case you should go and stop reading and pick up another doughnut. Or you don't actually know how to go about it.

If yours is the first problem I can’t help you. However, if you have the motivation and the willpower to make this happen, the good news is I can tell you exactly what you need to do.

Myths about weight loss exercising

First thing we need to do is to get rid of some miss conceptions you probably have. These are not your fault, they been pounded it to all of our heads by mainstream diet and fitness gurus for years. Too bad for all of us that they're a load of crap.

You don't need to do endless cardio to lose weight. That's right. All you really need to do this three or four 30 minute sessions per week. If you have your diet dialed in, that will be more than enough cardio training to spur weight loss.

Resistance exercise
Resistance exercise

More can be less when you exercise to lose weight

The reasons that more cardio exercise than this can be counterproductive are these: First, your body becomes better at whatever you force it to do. Therefore, if you do a lot of aerobic exercise your body will adapt to it, and perform this exercise more efficiently and burn fewer calories doing it. It's a classic case of diminishing returns for increasing effort.

Second reason is that cardio routines are not the best exercises to lose weight - that they do nothing to help you keep the weight off. The right kind of weight loss exercising will not only help you burn off the fat you already have, but provide you with additional much needed muscle mass that will help keep the fat from coming back.

Resistance training exercises to lose weight fast

Once you have your diet dialed in, and you've committed yourself to 90 to 100 minutes of aerobic exercise per week, you can set up a program of resistance training that will take weight off quickly and help you to keep it from coming back.

Specific exercise routine recommendations for this are beyond the scope of this article. I would rather give you a firm grounding in the benefits of resistance training, so that you understand why this is the route that you need to take. There are a plethora of exercise routines elsewhere here on HubPages and on many blogs and websites waiting to help you burn stomach fat once you're ready to get started.

The main benefit of resistance training as your weight loss program is that it not only burns calories while you're doing it, but it will help you continue to burn calories throughout the rest of the day. When you work all your major muscle groups, your body temperature goes up by a degree or two. Your entire system kicks in the high gear, and you begin to metabolize fat.

If you're smart enough to follow your resistance workout with a short cardio routine will see a double benefit. This is because your resistance training has eaten up all of the sugar in your blood. If you continue this low intensity cardio your body has to pull the energy from somewhere. That somewhere is fat burning.

Resistance training will also have a secondary benefit. When you do it, you build muscle mass. The fat on your body doesn't do anything. It simply sits there. However, muscle mass burns up calories just by existing. If you build more muscle mass and change your body composition, you will burn more calories just by existing as well. This will help you keep the weight off once you lose it.

I hope I've been able to convince you not to become yet another glaze eyed drone on the elliptical machine but instead to take the steps you need to, and that you will change your body composition and become successful at long-term weight loss.
